HASU Awards 2025

The Annual HASU Awards Ceremony will be taking place in The Barn on Thursday 22nd May 2025, 4-7pm.

The night will recognise members of the Students' Union for their outstanding contributions and will shine a light on Clubs & Societies at Harper Adams and the amazing achievements of both individuals, teams and groups.

This is a FREE event where everyone is allowed to attend!

Award 

Panel 

Criteria 

Club of the Year 

Activities 

Based on each club’s achievements during the preceding 12 months both on and off the pitch.  

Judges will be looking for: 

  • Evidence of development over the last 12 months such as a development plan, diversity/inclusivity initiatives, increase in membership, successful sponsorship agreements, and innovative and creative approaches to club activity. 

  • Volunteering and involvement in the wider community including fundraising. 

  • Performance in BUCS leagues or other equivalent sporting competitions. 

  • Promotion of club activities through promotional channels (e.g website and social media). 

  • Participation and engagement with sustained and consistent team performance throughout the year. 

  • Evidence of significant achievements of the club or individual members that has served to enhance the reputation and profile of the club this year. 

 

Sportsman of the Year 

Activities 

 

The overall best achieving sportsperson of the year in any men's team. (For those in mixed teams please choose either men's or women's on preference/how you personally identify) 

Judges will be looking for: 

  • A motivated, dedicated and passionate team player. 

  • Notable, consistent and exceptional performance or improvement in standard of performance both on and off the pitch throughout the year. 

  • Outstanding contribution to a major event, game or tournament. 

  • Improved current or formed new partnerships with SU office staff, Coaches, other team members, University staff or Sponsors. 

  • Contributions to the club are positive and will have a long-lasting effect on the student experience. 

  • Contributed to a significant moment throughout the year – perhaps an unexpected outcome of a fixture, a landslide victory, a historic moment or a non-sporting event that helped to create unity, awareness or education of the sport or team. 

Sportswoman of the Year 

Activities

Judges will be looking for:

Club Personality of the Year 

Activities 

 

This award recognises those club members who have shown commitment and enthusiasm in their discipline. 

They have motivational personalities, are generous with their time in supporting their teammates, and encourage the continual development of their team. 

 

 

Club committee member of the Year 

Activities 

 

This award will go to a club committee member who has gone above and beyond in their role to support the success of the club. 

Judges will be looking for: 

  • Went above and beyond in increasing membership numbers, working through all the admin needed for the club. 

  • Worked towards getting the club in a better financial position over the year, either through membership sales, fundraising, or sponsorship. 

  • Acted as a role model for the club, showing passion and dedication for the group and determination to develop the club.  

  • Has laid the foundations for the club, allowing it to develop and improve for years to come. 

  • Additional evidence of going beyond their responsibilities to increase the success and sustainability of the club. 

Society of the Year 

Activities 

 

This award celebrates those societies that have gone out of their way to push boundaries and deliver more than ever before. 

Through delivery of outstanding events, innovative projects and activities, excellent organisation and awareness raising, these societies have created exceptional environments and provided a series of well-rounded and inclusive experiences for their members.  

 

They truly embody the ethos of Harper Adams Students’ Union. 

 

Societies must be officially affiliated with HASU to be eligible. 

 

Judges will be looking for: 

  • Evidence of development over the last 12 months such as a development plan, diversity/inclusivity initiatives, increase in membership, successful sponsorship agreements, and innovative and creative approaches to society activity. 

  • Events were executed and organised to a high standard, creating an enjoyable experience for members with a high level of student participation. 

  • Volunteering and involvement in the wider community including fundraising. 

  • Promotion of society activities through promotional channels (e.g website and social media). 

  • Evidence of significant achievements of the society or individual members that has served to enhance the reputation and profile of the society this year. 

Society Personality of the Year 

Activities 

 

This award recognises those individuals who have shown commitment and enthusiasm toward their society.  

 

The winner of this award will have a positive attitude, be friendly and approachable and is considered a role model to students both in and out of their society. 

Society committee member of the Year 

Activities 

 

This award will go to a society committee member who has gone above and beyond in their role to support the success of the society. 

 

Judges will be looking for: 

  • Went above and beyond in increasing membership numbers, working through all the admin needed for the society. 

  • Worked towards getting the society in a better financial position over the year, either through membership sales, fundraising, or sponsorship 

  • Acted as a role model for the society, showing passion and dedication for the group and determination to develop the society.  

  • Has laid the foundations for the society, allowing it to develop and improve for years to come. 

  • Additional evidence of going beyond their responsibilities as committee to increase the success and sustainability of the society. 

 

Most Improved Club or Society 

Activities 

 

Celebrating improvement, this award will be awarded to a group of students who have actively improved their club or society from previous years. 

 

Judges will be looking for: 

  • Increased membership numbers. 

  • Member retention. 

  • Evidence of event/activity attendance, organisation, and success. 

  • Fundraising and charity events. 

  • Sports league/event achievements. 

  • Commitment to building solid foundations for future years including development of community spirit, comradery, or relationships with SU Office and University staff. 

Charity and Community Impact 

Activities 

 

Awarded to an individual, club, or society which most promotes the good name of Harper Adams and flourished in creating a valuable sense of community for like-minded people, offering a safe space for students to come together. 

Judges will be looking for: 

  • Monies raised for charity through diverse/successful events. 

  • New links formed with community groups/charities. 

  • Awareness campaigns for important issues affecting the harper community. 

  • The diverse range of events organised by the individual or group for the purposes of the betterment of the community/charity. 

 

Innovative Online Engagement 

Activities 

 

This award considers a club or society that has used technology and social media to make advancements in student engagement with their work/project/activities.  

 

Its use must have made a positive, long-lasting difference to the individual, club or society and have improved the engagement and perception of the group and SU.

Club or Society Event of the Year Award 

Activities 

Awarded to the club or society who organised an event which has had a significant positive impact on the Harper community. 

Judges will be looking for: 

  • Attendance numbers of the event. 

  • Evidence of feedback from members that the event was executed and organised to a high standard, creating an enjoyable experience for members. 

  • Feedback from any staff who supported the running of the event to reflect the hard work of the organisers. 

  • New and diverse activities or the growth and development of legacy events. 

RESPECT Award (Ken to present) 

Activities 

 

This award will be presented to an individual, club, or society who through their actions collectively and individually, nurtured an environment of respectfulness, positive relationships and experiences. 

 

Judges will look for: 

  • Individuals/groups who go above and beyond to include everyone in their activities. 

  • Student groups who make extra efforts to welcome diversity in their memberships. 

  • Students/groups who run inclusivity initiatives such as disabled sports, multi-cultural events, liberation group activities etc. 

  • Student groups/individuals who have worked to build better relationships with the SU/University on behaviors and have fostered cultures of open, honest, and kind conversation. 

  • Students who have actively challenged behaviours outlined in the RESPECT policy to support fellow students and make the Harper community more welcoming. 

Course Representative of the Year (Staff Choice)

Course Rep of the Year Award recognises an outstanding student representative who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and advocacy in representing their peers. 

The recipient of this award has shown remarkable effort in supporting and enhancing the student experience through proactive communication, problem-solving, and collaboration with staff and students alike. 

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a current Course Representative for the academic year. 

  • Must have consistently fulfilled the duties and responsibilities of a Course Rep, as outlined by HASU and HAU. 

  • Nominations can be submitted by staff only and should be accompanied by supporting evidence such as examples of effective communication, advocacy and leadership leading to a positive impact on the student experience. 

Course Representative of the Year (Student Choice) 

Voice 

 

Course Rep of the Year Award recognises an outstanding student representative who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and advocacy in representing their peers. The recipient of this award has shown remarkable effort in supporting and enhancing the student experience through proactive communication, problem-solving, and collaboration with staff and students alike. 

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a current Course Representative for the academic year. 

  • Must have consistently fulfilled the duties and responsibilities of a Course Rep, as outlined by HASU and HAU. 

  • Nominations can be submitted by students only and should be accompanied by supporting evidence such as examples of effective communication, advocacy and leadership leading to a positive impact on the student experience. 

SU Part-Time Officer of the Year 

Voice 

 

The Students' Union Part-Time Officer of the Year Award recognises the exceptional contribution of a part-time officer who has demonstrated outstanding commitment, leadership, and passion in representing students and championing their causes. This individual has gone above and beyond their role to positively impact the student experience and support the values of Harper Adams Students' Union. 

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a current part-time officer within Harper Adams Students' Union during the academic year. 

  • Must have fulfilled the duties and responsibilities outlined for the part-time officer role as specified by Harper Adams Students' Union. 

  • Nominations can be submitted by students and should provide specific evidence of the nominee’s work, impact, and dedication. Evidence can include examples of successful campaigns, strong advocacy and representation, or other measurable outcomes from their work. 

 

SU Student Staff Member of the Year 

Managers 

The winner of this award will have gone above and beyond during their employment as a staff member of HASU. They will show enthusiasm and commitment to their work and endeavour to both deliver a great service to customers and improve & promote a positive experience of the SU. 

 

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a current HASU Staff member. 

  • Must be a current Harper student on a registered course. 

  • Must have worked as a staff member for a minimum of 3 months. 

Students’ Union President’s Award 

 

Selected by President – no nominations 

President 

Having been elected to represent students and implement changes to improve student experience at Harper, the President wishes to celebrate the work of a student who has contributed significantly to the spirit and community of Harper without necessarily holding a formal post or office. 

 

The President’s Award recognises a student who has embodied our HASU values through their actions as a member of the Harper Adams Community. 

They have demonstrated exceptional levels of enthusiasm, engagement, commitment, respect, inclusivity and passion toward supporting the Union in its activities.  The winner of this award may have contributed to campaigns, student life, fundraising, volunteering, building community or student voice, and has incorporated the Harper Spirit in all that they do.
