Spruce up your student life - Vote Erin!

Hi, my name is Erin Spruce, and I’m excited to be running for the position of Vice President at Harper Adams Students' Union! As an active member of our university, I want to represent YOUR voice, enhance student life, and ensure that everyone gets the best possible experience during their time at Harper.

If elected, I aim to focus on the following key areas:

1. Student Support & Welfare

  • Advocate for the continuation of better mental health support and accessibility to services.
  • Create a digital detox campaign, promoting ideas to decrease screen time and improve mental wellbeing.
  • Push for enhanced wellbeing initiatives, such as more social events, stress-relief activities, and wellbeing workshops.

2. Academic & Career Development

  • Strengthen links between students and industry professionals to improve placement and job opportunities – especially within the veterinary/animal sciences departments.
  • Work with faculty to ensure students’ academic concerns are heard and addressed.
  • Push for further improvements in lecture theatres and classrooms, including the addition of more plug sockets available to students.

3. Safety and Security

  • Creation of a “Safe Nights Out” campaign – including making drink test kits readily available, the addition of a welfare station and water stations on nights out within the SU, as well as a quiet space for those who need to take 5 mins on a night out before rejoining the night!
  • Advocate for self-defence workshops to aid in improving the confidence and safety of students when on nights out.

Why me?

As a previous SLR (warden) and secretary of the newly formed Arts and Craft Society, I believe I have many skills that would be advantageous for this role. These roles have given me the opportunity to actively work towards enhancing the student experience at Harper, and if I were to be voted in as Vice President, I would love to continue this! I will aim to champion inclusivity, creativity and student wellbeing, all of which I believe to be important areas within the university experience.
